Vaccines work by enhancing your body’s natural defence system against pathogens. Many diseases have been eliminated due to vaccination. Almost 2-3 million lives are saved because of the use of vaccines. Vaccines improve the health and fitness of an individual by several degrees.
Before going into the vaccines’ details, we should know about the action and structure of the virus.
Coronaviruses are a group of virus that is responsible for the infection of the respiratory tract. The current pandemic is due to the SARS-COV-2. This virus spread through the air droplets. When an infected person sneezes or coughs, the droplets are transferred from one person to another. The name of the virus is due to its appearance. When viewed under a microscope, the virus looks like it has a crown.
The angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE2) is found on the surface of almost all human cells. The spikes or the‘S’ protein found in the virus latch onto the ACE2 and release the virus RNA into the host/human cell. Thus the replication of the virus starts in the body. Symptoms of coronavirus are as follows:
- Body Pain
- Sore throat
- Loss of taste and smell
- Shortness of Breath
- Congestion or Runny nose
The symptoms are varied from person to person. The new strains also come with new symptoms; even some people who have contracted the virus are asymptomatic.
Treatment of Covid-19 has no defined pattern. With new researches and studies, the addition and removal of medicines are ongoing. Because fitness and health are at stake here, this addition and removal will continue till a cure is found. Many drugs such as; hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, dexamethasone are being used in the treatment. Now that the vaccine is available, it is best to get that as ‘Precaution is better than Cure.’
According to W.H.O, as of February 18th, seven vaccines were distributed throughout the world, and 60 vaccines are in clinical study trials. The most important vaccines that have been approved for distribution are; BNT162b2 by Pfizer, mRNA-1273 by Moderna, Sputnik-V by Gamaleya Scientific Research Institute, Russia, and Coronavac by Sinovac, China. While these vaccines have different efficacies, their mechanism of action is the same.
How Does the Vaccine Work?
As discussed earlier, the virus attaches to host cells by the ‘S’ protein. Vaccines have mRNA that has the same protein in them. By inoculating these vaccines into the body, we want the body to recognize the virus. If the virus attacks the body in the future, the body will recognize the virus and immediately attack the virus. Our main goal now is to avoid or minimize any serious infection and hospitalization. The widespread vaccine will also ensure that the virus does not cause any severe response in the healthy individual.
How long will the Vaccine Last?
No vaccine is 100% effective. Many people have reported having mild symptoms of the disease even after the administration of vaccines. Researchers are trying to eliminate this situation and enhance the effectiveness of the vaccine.
Will the Vaccine Work if you have already contracted the Virus?
It will be beneficial to get the vaccine even after you have contracted the virus. There is evidence that one might contract the virus even if the immunity is developed naturally.
Will you have to wear a Mask even after Vaccine Administration?
Yes! Even if you have gotten the vaccine that is 95% effective, there is still a 5% chance that you can contract the disease. You should also be concerned about other people’s health fitness as you can carry/transmit the virus from an infected person to a healthy individual.
You should get the Coronavirus Vaccine. There is no need to be afraid of the vaccine. The vaccine is marketed after numerous lab and clinical trials. Trust Science! Vaccines are being inoculated since the 1800s, and they are responsible for eliminating many deadly contagious diseases.
